CTR (Click-Through Rate)

The percentage of impressions that result in a click

📌

Why it matters

CTR is what separates "they saw me" from "they were interested". Impressions without clicks tell you the message reached the wrong people, or that the wording gave nobody a reason to care.

Full definition

CTR measures how many people clicked your post or ad out of everyone who saw it. For example: if 1,000 people saw a post and 20 clicked, the CTR is 2%. A high CTR (above 2%) means an effective post. A low CTR means it's time to rework the headline or image.

🧮 A worked example

A post in a property group drew 4,200 impressions and 38 clicks — a 0.9% CTR. The same post with a headline naming the neighbourhood and the price drew 3,900 impressions and 121 clicks: 3.1%. Fewer impressions, three times the enquiries.

⚠️ The common mistake

Comparing CTR across channels. A 1% CTR on a paid ad and a 1% CTR on an organic group post are entirely different things, because the group audience has already self-selected by interest.
